A Chinese medicine

Acupuncture is a very old therapy whose origins go back to the Chinese medical tradition. Its practice has been documented for several thousand years in Asia, particularly in India, China, Korea and Japan. Because of its historical, geographical and cultural roots and the conditions of its establishment in the West, in addition to medicine, acupuncture is also of interest to anthropology, the history of science, epistemology and sociology. Since 16 November 2010, acupuncture has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Acupuncture is recognised in France as a medical procedure

France was one of the first countries to include acupuncture in the nomenclature of medical acts and its reimbursement by social security (1948), and to organise the teaching of acupuncture in the form of an inter-university diploma (1987) and a medical degree (2007). Strictly reserved for doctors, acupuncture is not considered a speciality but an orientation.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture has identified 366 points in the body located along 12 energy pathways, called "meridians". When these points are pricked by acupuncture needles, the energy blocked at the point is either tonified or dispersed, depending on the needs identified by the acupuncturist. The Chinese have mapped these energy circuits and highlighted their function. Acupuncture is therefore an art of healing that takes into consideration the energy of the universe, food and all these elements circulate in each of us.

Very complex, acupuncture requires observation, listening to the patient and above all many years of experience.
