How did you hear about magnetotherapy?

As a rheumatologist, I have to treat pain, and that is why I am always looking for what can relieve my patients, to broaden my spectrum of medicinal and non-medicinal responses. This is how I discovered, through my patients, magnetotherapy, which I have also tested
personally. For example, when I take a long car trip, my magnetic belt is indispensable. If necessary, I get out of my car with my back bent for 10 to 15 meters.

In medicine and in the order announced it is necessary: not to harm, to relieve and to treat the cause. In this spirit, I have prescribed magneto-active textiles and/or free magnets and I have been positively surprised by the results.

With my colleague Jean Luc Renevier, rheumatologist in Mantes la Jolie, we have conducted several clinical studies which have shown that 100% of users are responsive (receptive) within 3 months, provided that the instructions for use are respected.

Magnetic therapy is an effective, safe, long-lasting and inexpensive treatment method that should be more widely known.

What was your first case?

A couple of middle-aged arthrosic patients who could no longer walk. I then looked for a solution and thought in terms of pain and not disease. Therapeutic magnets also act on the locomotor function, they allow to gain amplitude of movement and to restore the magnetic field of the area in question.

Another advantage of magnet therapy is that it has no age limit. I have, for example, a very elderly patient with osteoarthritis who was suffering from multiple medications and who, with her magnetic knee brace, was able to regain a pain-free state and a certain degree of autonomy by walking again, whereas I could not treat her with additional medication.

We often hear that magnets relieve but do not treat the disease, what do you think?

Indeed, with magnets, one must think in terms of pain relief whatever the rheumatic diseases (and pathologies
pathologies related to sports medicine). There are two clinical effects with magnet therapy in humans:

  • An analgesic (pain-relieving) effect, which can appear more or less quickly depending on the sensitivity of each person. Some patients are "turbo", others rather "diesel" but everyone responds.
  • An effect on the gain of mobility and thus the functionality of the treated joint is not only explained by the analgesic gain but probably by a magnetic homeostasis effect. This functional gain is highly appreciated by patients. In comparison, I would like to remind you that morphine, the most powerful of our analgesics, does not have a "functional gain" effect.

The effectiveness of therapeutic magnets is due to the combination of three actions:

  • They decrease the perception of pain by lowering the intensity of the pain message that rises to the brain.
  • Therapeutic magnets create a sort of GPS of pain by magnetic induction. This pain geolocation allows the brain to send our own natural painkillers, endorphins, to the location of the "alert" pain (loco dolenti).
  • Finally, they restore the original magnetic field of the injured area to help it heal. This is the return to a state of magnetic homeostasis.

In what context do you prescribe Magnetotherapy?

Especially for chronic pain that degrades the body, a chronic pain is a pain that has been present for more than 6 months and that has no limit in age. In reality, any pain that has been present for one month (sub-acute pain) can be relieved by magnetic therapy. In acute pain (intense and recent), magnetic therapy complements pharmacological care.

Finally, we have demonstrated in our studies that preventive use is possible in situations known to the patient that are likely to cause
pain. What is very interesting for patients is that they can take ownership of this therapy, it is no longer a constraint, magnets become therapeutic tools that help them. They become actors of their health and the magnets are their "friends".

In conclusion, I would say that therapeutic magnets, if they are powerful and of good quality, represent a natural, local, very effective and safe treatment.

How did you hear about Auris and why do you recommend our products?

As previously mentioned, it was through my patients that I became re-interested in magnets which, I remind you, are not a matter of belief but of physics. I approached the European leader in therapeutic magnets, the company AURIS. The seriousness of the family business and their innovative vision brought us together and with my clinical research partner we carried out 5 conclusive studies:
Actipol for fibromyalgia, various magneto-active textiles for painful knees, shoulders and thumbs, and magnetic belts for chronic low back pain.
